To describe steps, use đầu tiên (first), sau đó or rồi (then), tiếp theo (next) and cuối cùng (finally). For ordinals put thứ before a number: thứ hai (second), thứ ba (third). The first is nhất and the last is cuối.

Consejo: Days of the week use the same pattern: thứ Hai is Monday, the second day.

First, wash the vegetables well.
