To describe steps, use đầu tiên (first), sau đó or rồi (then), tiếp theo (next) and cuối cùng (finally). For ordinals put thứ before a number: thứ hai (second), thứ ba (third). The first is nhất and the last is cuối.

Tips: Days of the week use the same pattern: thứ Hai is Monday, the second day.

Contoh

Đầu tiên, rửa rau thật sạch.
First, wash the vegetables well.
Sau đó, cắt rau thành miếng nhỏ.
Then cut the vegetables into small pieces.
Cuối cùng, cho nước mắm vào và trộn đều.
Finally, add the fish sauce and mix well.
