Big numbers are built in groups: nghìn (thousand) and triệu (million). Prices are usually said without “đồng”: năm mươi nghìn means 50,000 dong. In the south you will also hear ngàn for thousand. For “half”, use rưỡi: một triệu rưỡi = 1.5 million.

Tips: Prices are often shortened: “năm mươi” can mean 50,000 when the context is clear.
