Pattern

S + đã / đang / sẽ + V

Verbs do not change for time. Add a marker before the verb: đã for the past, đang for something in progress, sẽ for the future. When the time is already clear (hôm qua, ngày mai), the marker is often dropped.

Tip: “Hôm qua tôi đi chợ” is perfectly natural without đã.

Examples

  • Tôi đã ăn sáng.

    I had breakfast.

  • Tôi đang học tiếng Việt.

    I'm studying Vietnamese.

  • Ngày mai tôi sẽ đi Huế.

    Tomorrow I will go to Huế.

  • Hôm qua tôi đi chợ.

    Yesterday I went to the market.
